One of the blessings of Umrah is that it can be performed at almost any time of the year. Still, some seasons are quieter, some are more rewarding, and some are easier on your budget. Here is how to choose the best time for your Umrah.

When can you perform Umrah?

Umrah is open year-round, except during the days of Hajj (roughly the 8th to the 13th of Dhul-Hijjah), when pilgrims are performing Hajj. Outside of that window, you may travel whenever it suits you.

Is Ramadan the best time?

Performing Umrah in Ramadan carries immense reward — the Prophet ص said that an Umrah in Ramadan equals a Hajj in reward. It is the most spiritually rewarding season, but also the busiest and most expensive, so book early if this is your goal.

What about winter versus summer?

Winter (November to February): cooler weather in Makkah and Madinah makes the rites far more comfortable — ideal for families and older travellers. Summer: hotter, but often lower prices and fewer crowds outside school holidays.

How far ahead should I book?

For Ramadan and winter breaks, book three to six months ahead for the best hotels and fares. For quieter months, a few weeks can be enough. Group departures fill up, so earlier is always better.

Madania Umrah Group offers scholar-led group departures from JFK and Toronto throughout the year. View upcoming packages or ask us about the next trip.
